Things have been getting worse with my health again. I’m really not entirely sure what’s wrong, and neither is my doctor, but I’ve been having really scary heart events lately. The majority of them seem to happen when I’m in the middle of a sound sleep. I really have no clue what sets them off, and I’ve had a couple of these “attacks” happen to me when I’m wide awake, and was otherwise feeling completely fine prior to the episode. Since we’re not sure if this is an exacerbation of my current POTS problem or something completely different, I’m wearing an event monitor.
The event monitor will be with me for a month, and I will be wearing it all of the time, except when I’m in a shower or bath. So far, the damn thing goes off all the time because it’s picking up on my “normal” POTS symptoms. It’s also picking up on a lot of stuff that I don’t really feel, myself. If it senses something bad happening, it transmits a signal to the cardiologist’s office, and they can look at it right away. If it’s deadly they’ll call you back, but no one has called me, so I assume I probably won’t die. Ha. Not that I’m super worried about that. There are buttons so I can notify them when I’m feeling sick too so it isn’t dependent on the monitor going off. The only kind of sucky bit? It sounds awful when it goes off, which can be kind of embarrassing when I’m in public or something, but it’s okay. It’s just for one month and then (with luck) we’ll be able to figure things out.
I haven’t had a repeat of one of the new scary heart events, but then again, I’ve had this thing for less than a week, and the attacks seem to be happening roughly every two weeks. So, we’ll just see what happens. In the meantime, my doctor has me set up with some extra IV fluids though my port each week, so we’ll just see how that goes.
I really hope that we’re able to get to the bottom of all this frustrating health stuff, and maybe get it under control. I like to dream big.
